Gabrielle Penfold

Gabrielle Penfold x sir.

Exploring the notion of the SIR. women’s interaction with the natural world, Penfold
conceptualised motifs of a rising sun, lemons, figs and abstract lines.

The process began with oil paints on canvas, before being reworked onto a sustainable
linen blend to form a capsule of accessories and ready-to-wear, featuring buttons made from recycled cotton.

The collaborative work marks our latest sustainable ready-to-wear capsule as we continue
our commitment to a more sustainable future.

We sat down with Gabrielle to chat about her creative process for YES SIR.

I’m most creative when…
When I have had an inspiring experience like a fabulous meal, after I have spent time in nature and probably when I’m least under pressure.

I draw inspiration from....
Everything! It could be as simple as the texture and colour of an old building or the slices of crazy light at sunset.

Outside of painting, I love to…
Still keep it pretty creative to be honest, I love gardening, cooking for friends and pottering with ceramics.

My favourite place to escape...
A tiny little place called Gerroa on the South Coast.

My favourite medium to work with is...
Oil Paint and Clay… I'm starting to dabble in gouache paint again.

If I wasn’t an Artist, I’d be...
I think I would have liked being a florist or landscaper.

My favourite colour is...
That's very hard to answer. I go through phases, maybe it's orange at the moment.

In my spare time I love to...
Cook some treats for my family and friends and discover new swimming holes. Being by the beach really helps with my process, great ideas come from the water for me.

My favourite piece from the SIR. x Gabrielle Penfold capsule is…
Definitely the shirt dress and the Beret!
