Finance Manager (Maternity Leave Contract)

SIR, is an Australian privately-owned company which designs and manufactures high-end women’s fashion. Clothing is sold online nationally and internationally as well as through a number of wholesale partners. We currently have 3 retail stores across Australia and plan to significantly increase the store footprint in the coming years. The office is located in Rosebery, Sydney.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The SIR Finance team is responsible for co-ordinating budgets and forecasts, cash flow management, payroll, business analysis and process efficiency. The team also delivers accurate, timely and relevant financial and management reporting, and analysis and advice to support business decision making. As the Finance Manager you will play a critical role in owning the end-to-end financial and management accounting duties and manage a direct report.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific responsibilities of this position include:

  • Provision of accurate and timely reporting of monthly management accounts and analysis to support decision making:
    • Producing the monthly management pack.
    • Producing monthly store and department P&L reports.
    • Assisting department heads with analysis or ad hoc reports. 
  • Maintaining the company’s Xero system GL to ensure it is updated accurately, enabling management to have confidence in the integrity of data.
  • Reviewing the monthly accounts for all other entities within the group.
  • Effectively managing and developing the Management Accountant to maximise productivity and engagement.
  • Management of the payroll function.
  • Leading the month-end close process, posting journal entries, completing all Balance sheet reconciliations, P&L analysis and preparing the management accounts.
  • Compliance with all statutory and taxation requirements including GST/VAT return preparation and lodgement, superannuation, workers compensation and income tax in conjunction with Kelly Partners.
  • Identifying finance process efficiency opportunities and documenting new procedures.
  • Cost monitoring and assisting with business improvement projects.
  • Working closely with internal customers to coordinate the flow of information across the organisation.
  • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assisting with budgeting, forecasting and cash flow reporting.

    KPI’s
  • Management reporting pack completed and submitted for review by Head of Finance by working day 7.

  • Monthly reports to be issued with 0 errors.

  • Regular review of the Xero GL to ensure that only necessary accounts are active and verification of tax treatment for all transactions.

  • Engage the Management Accountant in regular coaching discussions to ensure performance is in line with expectations and ensure they understand the importance of their role in the organisation.

  • Accurate and timely processing of fortnightly Payroll utilising the Employment Hero HR and Payroll systems.

  • Ensure all Australian and international tax and compliance obligations are fulfilled accurately and in line with relevant due dates.

  • Ongoing development and maintenance of reporting models utilised by the SIR Finance team ensuring their integrity and accuracy.

  • Ongoing development and maintenance of internal procedure documents.

  • Identifying areas of overspend within 15 days of month end and agreeing action plans/controls with department heads to prevent future overspends.

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and the wider SIR team through effective communication, follow up, execution and escalation.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • CA/CPA qualified.

  • At least 2 years’ experience in a similar position.

  • Extensive experience with Xero, Employment Hero and Employment Hero Payroll.

  • Working knowledge of a retail business.

  • Advanced Excel skills.

  • Strong reporting skills and a high degree of commercial awareness.

  • Experience managing people.

  • Ability to build relationships across the business and lead by example.

  • Pro-active approach in identifying financial and operational areas for improvement and experience in re-engineering business processes & managing change.

  • Ability to work to tight deadlines, set priorities and manage within limited resources.

  • Highly developed problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced and challenging environment and the skill to juggle a dozen things at once.

  • Proven track record for consistently delivering outstanding customer service.

  • Well-developed written and verbal communications skills and the ability to effectively communicate with non-financial people.
